If you’ve been following the explosive rise of flag football, chances are you’ve heard the name Darrell “Housh” Doucette. Where Did Darrell Doucette Go to College?

Doucette attended Xavier University of Louisiana, a historically Black institution nestled in New Orleans, where he double-dealt books and balls with panache. From 2007 to 2012, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology

Though he wasn’t on a scholarship at the NCAA level for football, Doucette reportedly remained close to his love by getting involved in Xavier’s intramural sports, particularly flag football, according to The Guardian. That’s where he honed his craft and gained the leadership skills that would take him to national and international stardom.

He has also given back to the flag football community as a whole, coaching and conducting clinics internationally in countries like China and Mexico, according to The Guardian. This shows he’s not just a player but also a mentor and is developing the sport.

His college years were more than a simple study session — they were the springboard where his passion for flag football was ignited and his approach began to form.

Doucette’s Rise to USA Flag Football Fame

Skip ahead a few years, and Doucette’s name is illuminating the flag football landscape. He went from competing in local leagues in the U.S. to establishing himself as one to watch. He attracted the notice of the selectors for the United States men’s national flag football team.

In 2021, he became the starting quarterback and led Team USA to a series of victories, including consecutive IFAF Flag World Championships in 2021 and 2024 and a gold medal at the 2022 World Games.

However, Doucette is not your average quarterback. At 5’7″ and 140 pounds, he doesn’t use brute power or size; what he uses is his lightning-speed decision-making, razor-sharp football IQ, and a knack for beating up defenses. He’s the type of player who sees a blitz coming and can spot his receiver in an instant — a visionary chess master but on a football field.

His play during the 2023 IFAF Americas Continental Championship was the stuff of legend, taking Team USA to a perfect 7-0 record and claiming MVP. His plays and moves not only won gold medals but also respect and adoration from the global flag football community.

And as flag football picks up steam, particularly as it moves toward possible Olympic representation, Doucette is becoming one of the sport’s legendary players. And football legends are taking notice. NFL star Chas Johnson said on X, “I bet Darrell Doucette flag football team can beat any current NFL assembled flag football team, flag is different with too many ways to manipulate in game play NFL players aren’t use to.”

That’s some strong promotion, but if you’ve ever watched Johnson play, you know he’s not all mouth, so he means what he says.
