Having kicked off the 2023 college football season in Dublin, Ireland, the NC State game represents the third opportunity to see the Fighting Irish this season. Marcus Freeman’s team ruthlessly sunk the Midshipmen in quarterback Sam Hartman’s debut game since transferring from Wake Forest where he tore up the ACC record book but had a 1-2 record against NC State.

In Week 1, Notre Dame played their first-ever game against an FCS opponent, despatching Tennessee State 56-3. As a result, the Fighting Irish have allowed just six total points as they prepare for the toughest battle to date. It’s the first of six clashes against ACC opposition on their schedule. Although they beat NC State the last time they met, Notre Dame is 1-2 against the Wolfpack.

NC State heads into the clash with Notre Dame, their second FBS Independent matchup in consecutive weeks, after getting a 24-14 win on the road against a strong UConn team. New quarterback Brennan Armstrong, led the way with two rushing touchdowns on his debut while completing 65.4% of his pass attempts for 155 yards — adding 96 yards on the ground.
While NC State will host Clemson and North Carolina in ACC play, plus a tough trip to take on Duke in mid-October, their clash with Notre Dame is arguably the toughest game on the Wolfpack schedule. After giving up 160 yards and two scores to the UConn running back rotation led by Victor Rosa last week, they now face one of the most dangerous backs in the nation in Audric Estime.
