The Georgia Bulldogs have weapons all over the field. However, an unsung hero lies amidst a talent pool of skill players and defensive stalwarts.
That player is all-everything punter Brett Thorson, who exited the SEC Championship Game following a non-contact injury against Texas.
Brett Thorson Injury Update
The Bulldogs were already dealing with a backup quarterback in the second half of the SEC Championship Game following Carson Beck’s exit against Texas. Making matters even worse, despite a lead against the Longhorns, it was Thorson who came up lame on a third-quarter punt that really put their game in doubt.
Thorson delivered a 53-yard punt halfway through the third quarter. On a Silas Bolden return for Texas, Thorson dove to make the tackle along the sidelines, only to have his knee buckle and lose all power.

On the broadcast angle, it was difficult to see. But as ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit pointed out on a subsequent replay, it was a non-contact injury that saw Thorson’s knee buckle on the turf.

It was just a moment or two later that ESPN’s Holly Rowe stated that Thorson would miss the rest of the game with a left leg injury and he was later seen leaving the field on a cart.
At the time of the injury, Thorson had punted the ball four times for 214 yards including two shots that landed inside the Texas 20.
As this is an ongoing story, CFN will monitor Thorson’s availability for any further games this season. The potential All-American at punter has recorded a career-high 46.9 yards per punt this season for the Bulldogs.
