Sapp was promoted from defensive senior quality control analyst to pass rush coordinator this offseason and attended Colorado’s spring practice session.
Peko played in the NFL as a defensive tackle and had a career that spanned 15 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, and Arizona Cardinals.
Head coach Deion Sanders recruited Sapp to help with the defense and knows of Sapp’s Pro Football Hall of Fame career, which includes seven Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl win with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002. He had 96.5 career sacks with the Bucs and Oakland Raiders.
Deion Sanders has taken a different approach in Colorado from calling for changes to NCAA rules about how teams can practice in college, scrimmaging and prepping the way NFL teams do to prepare for a season.
After going 4-8 in 2023 at Colorado, Coach Prime’s squad produced a 9-4 record in 2024. His son, Shedeur, is among the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft and could hear his name called in the top five picks.
Travis Hunter, the two-way phenom who plays receiver and cornerback, was also on the Buffaloes’ roster in 2024 and is another potential top-five pick.

Sanders also added Marshall Faulk to the coaching staff this offseason.
A recent X post from the official Colorado football account showed Sapp endorsing the hiring of Faulk.
“He was in the backfield with Peyton Manning and Kurt Warner telling them about protection. So trust me, he knows this game.”

With Sapp and Peko in tow, Colorado’s defense is embracing a new era — one built on NFL experience and intensity only the two former defensive tackles can bring.
