Quarterback Hauss Hejny was a 2024 four-star recruit, but he didn’t receive much of an opportunity in his lone season with the TCU Horned Frogs. With four years of eligibility remaining, where could the talented Hejny wind up?
Where Could Hauss Hejny Transfer?
After only one season with TCU, Hejny has entered his name into the transfer portal, likely to seek a better opportunity with a new team.
The 2024 prospect saw action in just four games, rushing 15 times for 65 yards without throwing a pass. In high school, Hejny showed tremendous dual-threat ability, passing for over 2,000 yards along with over 1,000 yards on the ground on his way to leading Aledo High School to a Texas 5A D-1 State Championship in 2022.
Nevertheless, Horned Frogs starting quarterback Josh Hoover had a solid 2024 campaign, and with two seasons of eligibility remaining, he’ll likely assume that spot for the near future.
Meanwhile, the talented Hejny is just beginning his college football career, with four years of eligibility remaining. What teams may be interested in the former four-star prospect?
West Virginia Mountaineers
The West Virginia Mountaineers have reportedly reached out to Hejny, looking to add depth at quarterback through the transfer portal.
With the graduation of former starter Garrett Greene, redshirt junior backup Nicco Marchiol is the favorite to assume West Virginia’s starting role. But with only one other scholarship QB on the roster, the Mountaineers need more talent at the position.
Hejny’s legs could be a huge addition to the program; Marchiol has averaged only 3.2 yards per carry across three seasons. Greene was extremely active on the ground, rushing for over 700 yards in the past two seasons.
If Hejny joins the Mountaineers, he may have an opportunity to compete for the starting job right away, if not in certain run-game packages.
California Golden Bears
Hejny was offered by the California Golden Bears out of high school before signing with TCU. After only spending the summer and fall with the Horned Frogs, Cal may be willing to extend another offer to Hejny, especially with the departure of former starter Fernando Mendoza.
Mendoza’s absence was felt in the LA Bowl, in which the Golden Bears lost 24-13 to the UNLV Rebels. Cal quarterbacks CJ Harris and EJ Caminong combined for 19 of 39 passing for 166 yards and no touchdowns.
The smaller (6’0″, 190 pounds) and faster Hejny has a much different play style than the big-bodied Mendoza. But talent is not a question, and the Golden Bears may look to add through the portal following a disappointing bowl game appearance.
North Texas Mean Green
If Hejny isn’t set on transferring to the Power Four, the North Texas Mean Green present an opportunity for a player of his talents.
Former TCU quarterback Chandler Morris spent three seasons with the Horned Frogs before transferring to North Texas ahead of the 2024 season with two years of eligibility left. But after an excellent campaign, he joined the Virginia Cavaliers in early December.

Hejny could opt to follow that same script with the goal of returning to a Power Four program after excelling with the Mean Green.
With the starting job open, it could benefit both Hejny and North Texas’ program if he decides to transfer within the state.
Liberty Flames
With the absence of former starter Kaidon Salter, who transferred to Colorado for his final season of eligibility, the Liberty Flames could be looking to add a talented QB through the portal.
Hejny presents a similar skill set to Salter, who rushed for just over 2,000 yards in his three years as a starter.
The triple-option offense requires a mobile quarterback — Hejny ran multiple sub-11.00 second 100-meter times in high school. Forcing defenses to pick between the blazing speed of a quarterback and a capable running back on an option play could be deadly for Conference USA opponents.
The Flames should look to add the exact dual-threat ability through the portal that Hejny possesses.
Utah Utes
The Utah Utes offered Hejny out of high school and could look to sign him through the portal after a disappointing 2024 season at the quarterback position.
After multiple weeks in the transfer portal, 2024 starter Isaac Wilson is returning for 2025. Yet, he threw only 10 touchdowns to 11 interceptions, leading the Utes to a 2-4 record as the starter while showing below-average athleticism.
Hejny could opt to compete with Wilson for the starting spot as early as 2025.
