The UFL is prepping for its second season after the merger of the USFL and XFL. The UFL is undoubtedly keeping spring football alive just weeks after Super Bowl 59. The Birmingham Stallions enter this year as defending champions, having dominated the San Antonio Brahmas last season.
With the viewership seen last season, there is a potential expansion brewing. It is also bringing a mix of veteran talent and fresh college stars. As the UFL approaches, let’s take a look at the once-big names of college football that will be seen.

Best College QBs Playing in the UFL in 2025
1. Max Duggan
Max Duggan is one of the best quarterbacks TCU has had. In 2022, he was the Heisman Trophy runner-up and led the Horned Frogs to the national championship. That season, Duggan threw for 3,618 yards and 32 touchdowns. The Chargers then drafted Duggan in the seventh round.
2. Spencer Sanders
Spencer Sanders arrived as the UFL quarterback for the DC Defenders. After a prolific four-year run at Oklahoma State with over 9,500 passing yards and 67 touchdowns, Sanders transferred to Ole Miss but played a backup role. However, his dual-threat ability is being used well at the UFL.
3. Kellen Mond
Kellen Mond is a Texas A&M prodigy who threw 93 career touchdowns and had mobility with nearly 1,600 rushing yards. He was a third-round NFL draft pick. However, he bounced between teams without making a significant impact. The UFL is now his new arena and possibly where he can play big.
4. Kevin Hogan
It has been almost a decade since his college career ended. Yet, Kevin Hogan remains one of Stanford’s most accomplished quarterbacks. As a fourth-year starter, Hogan threw for 75 touchdowns and led the Cardinal to a Pac-12 title in 2013. He completed his Stanford career with 10,634 offense yards and 154.6 passing efficiency. Hogan was initially drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, and now, he is in the UFL.
5. Luis Perez
Luis Perez is one of the most decorated quarterbacks in Division II history. He led the Texas A&M-Commerce to a national championship in 2017. Perez is a six-time All-American and finished his collegiate career with 8,325 passing yards and 78 touchdowns. Perez was even awarded the Harlon Hill Trophy. Perez now plays with the Arlington Renegades at the UFL.
6. Anthony Brown Jr.
Anthony Brown Jr. was at Boston College before transferring to Oregon for his final season. In his last season, he led the Ducks to a 10-win season and a Pac-12 Championship appearance. Brown is a dual-threat quarterback, with 2,989 yards and 18 touchdowns. Named a Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award finalist, Brown now plays for the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL.
7. Holton Ahlers
Holton Ahlers is an East Carolina legend with 13,927 passing yards, 97 touchdowns, 1,127 completions, and 15,373 total offense yards. Ahlers also holds six career records in the American Athletic Conference. Ahlers now plays for the Arlington Renegades in the UFL.
8. Luke Lehnen
Luke Lehnen is a name that Division III cannot forget. At North Central College, he won two Stagg Bowls and was a two-time Gagliardi Trophy winner (2023, 2024). In his final season, he had a 69.3% completion rate with 3,258 yards and 43 touchdowns. Lehnen set NCAA all-division records for passing efficiency at 211.9 and had 213 total touchdowns. Now, with the Arlington Renegades, he looks to prove himself professionally.
9. Case Cookus
Case Cookus, aka “The Chef,” was popular in Northern Arizona. Over his career, he earned multiple All-America honors and was a two-time Walter Payton Award finalist. The Chef is now cheffing it up with the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL.
10. E.J. Perry IV
E.J. Perry IV is a name embedded in the Brown legacy. He finished second in school history with a total of 7,113 yards of offense and 546 passing completions. In 2021, he was named the Offensive MVP at the East-West Shrine Bowl, throwing for 241 yards and three touchdowns.
