Former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders had the spotlight on him throughout the Cleveland Browns’ rookie minicamp last week, giving fans their first look at the fifth-round pick.
Sanders, who slid in the 2025 NFL Draft after being a projected first-round pick by many, has embraced the Cleveland community, speaking to kids at a local high school and working out with others.

Sanders expressed his gratitude to the community’s response on Monday in an interview with Browns broadcaster Nathan Zegura.
“That’s why it worked out. That’s why I’m here and that’s why I’m a Brown,” Sanders said. “I feel like God won’t put me in a situation I’m not ready for, and that’s not ready for me. So that’s why I’m thankful for the city embracing me, and how I have been able to go and see the kids, just working out,” he continued.
“They ran with me, clapping for me when I got done working out. It’s really cool, and the city has really embraced me a lot. I’m just excited to be here.”
Sanders hit the ground running immediately after being drafted, even visiting a local gym in downtown Cleveland.
“I was ready to get to work in my new city,” Sanders said. “I’ve been working out home thanks to Pops [Deion Sanders], he built everything we needed to be successful. So I was ready to get acclimated to my new city, so I came out here and met everybody. Had the resource I needed to be great.”

“Going to the schools, I’ve been doing that since during the season last year, since even before that. That was just something that I generally do, and what I find fun. There’s a lot of negativity, a lot of talk going on in the world. So that’s where I find my peace, my happiness, my joy, is be able to have positive influence on the youth.”
As Sanders continues to work his way through his first NFL offseason, he’ll be competing with four others for a starting role. While he impressed at the rookie minicamp, he’ll have to prove himself again with the full team.
