Former Michigan Star Taylor Lewan Calls for Major CFP Shakeup

While the current ongoing debate between coaches and fans surrounding the proposed College Football Playoff expansion is about the number of teams, conference qualification spots, and rankings, former Michigan star Taylor Lewan is calling for something slightly different.

Lewan, who spent multiple seasons with the Michigan Wolverines, earned first-team All-American honors on two separate occasions, and was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Titans, calling for a major shakeup to the playoff system, asking for ‘home games all the way’

“Here’s the thing, this might ruffle feathers in the BCS category, I think we need to do away with the bowl games.”

“Just listen to this real quick. You play all the games based on ranking, so like if you’re a one seed, you have a home all the way to the college football Super Bowl.” Lewan explained, appearing on the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast.

“And then every year it would go between Cotton Bowl, Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, all those things. That’s where it would kind of move around, so you still get a touch and a taste of those historic BCS games.”

While calling for the complete ‘removal’ of bowl games may be a controversial call, the former Michigan star explained that wasn’t what he wanted to see, proposing a suggested change to the bowl game system and National Championship.”

“First, second, and third round needs to be on campus. I think bowl games are fine.”

“But when it comes to the College Football Playoff, I think home-field advantage should play all the way until the final game.”

“And then the College football championship, neutral site, you’re playing in Pasadena, you’re playing in New Orleans, wherever. Like you pick a spot, they bid for that spot, they go play there. And every year kind of switches like the Super Bowl.”

This system that Lewan is calling for may be familiar to some, as it is the same format that is followed by the NFL postseason, with the higher-seeded teams getting home-field advantage all the way up to the Super Bowl.

The discussion surrounding the College Football Playoff system will continue to rage on amongst coaches, fans, and players alike, as the future of the College Football postseason remains to be decided.
