With the announcement that the Longhorns would not host a spring game this season, Sarkisian explained that Texas is taking a different approach with its offseason training program. Texas is not the only team that has taken this approach. The USC Trojans also canceled their spring game. This announcement drew several strong reactions from college football fans.

Fans speculate that part of the reason Steve Sarkisian is choosing not to host a spring football game is so teams do not get a good look at his players in the spring.
With the introduction of NIL and increased use of the transfer portal in recent years, it is more dangerous for teams to allow other teams’ scouts to see their players publicly. If they do, there is a chance that a team will try to poach one of their players with a large NIL offer.
