It’s important to note that the Mustangs previously had their entire 2024 schedule laid out as a part of the American Athletic Conference. Eight conference games within the AAC included trips to Tulane, USF, North Texas, and Charlotte, while they were scheduled to host Rice, UAB, FAU, and ECU.

However, they were left with just three non-conference games on their schedule during the move and were originally scheduled to travel to play the SEC’s Vanderbilt and host the Big 12’s TCU in the opening stages of their schedule.

SMU will now face BYU instead of Vanderbilt and added Florida State to their ACC schedule with the 2024 release from the conference. SMU travels to Louisville, Stanford, and Duke over a four-week span with no home games in the entire month of October.

In return, they receive three home games in December with Pittsburgh, Boston College, and Cal coming to Dallas.
