Shedeur Sanders was finally drafted at the No. 144 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He had quite a dramatic slide, as he was at one point predicted to go in the Top 10 of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Sanders has been the victim of some unwarranted attention, and his first college offensive coordinator has now chimed in.
Michael Pollock was Sanders’ first offensive coordinator in his college football career. Arguably, Pollock was the man who shaped Sanders into who he is to become, and in a recent tweet, he is sticking by his former quarterback.

Michael Pollock Responds to Shedeur Sanders’ Criticism, Stands Firm on QB’s Consistency Across Systems
Pollock recently took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to set the record straight on his former quarterback. Pollock defended Sanders’ ability to adapt to new systems and execute at a high level throughout his career.
I was the first Offensive Coordinator that @ShedeurSanders had in college, and I have been with him throughout his college career. He has had multiple OC’s in college and has NEVER had a problem learning a new system, being prepared, and executing at a high level. STOP THE LIES!

“I was the first Offensive Coordinator that @ShedeurSanders had in college,” Pollock writes. “And I have been with him throughout his college career. He has had multiple OC’s in college and has NEVER had a problem learning a new system, being prepared, and executing at a high level. STOP THE LIES!”
The slide that we saw Sanders go down, dropping from the first to the fifth round, was certainly unprecedented. It got many people discussing Sanders on both sides of the spectrum. Some blamed it on his play, some blamed it on who he is as a person, and some even blamed it on his father.
However, Pollock took to Twitter to share his version of who Sanders truly is. He has remained close to Sanders throughout his entire college career. Despite Sanders having multiple offensive coordinators, Pollock says that he has “NEVER” had a problem learning a new system.
He even went further to say that Sanders was always prepared, and was always able to execute and play at a very high level. After his college year last year, it’s easy to see why he thinks that as Sanders was truly one of the best quarterbacks who tore up the college football field. Now, Sanders gets the chance to do that in the NFL.

Sanders has an opportunity to win the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback job as he will battle with fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, and former Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco. It remains to be seen what happens here, but what we know for sure is that despite the slide, Sanders could still have a great career.
