Many people thought Shedeur Sanders, the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, would be picked in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Fans were excited about his connection to his dad, but no one wanted Shedeur to be picked just because of his father’s name. Instead, teams were supposed to look at how well he played in college, which was similar to an elite prospect.
Unfortunately, every team in the first round passed on him, which surprised the whole college football community. This situation has led everyone to come together and raise the question of why he slid down the draft board. The most brutal part of this debate is that many believe he was snubbed because the Tyler native is a Black quarterback.

NFL Fans Explode Into Debate Over Race After Shedeur Sanders Goes Undrafted in Round One
It is true that before the 2025 NFL Draft, many people—including his dad—thought Shedeur Sanders would be a top-five pick. But instead, quarterbacks Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart were the only ones chosen in the first round.
The news shocked the NFL and college football world. Shedeur’s college stats were impressive: 14,347 passing yards, 134 touchdowns, and a 70.1% completion rate. So, why did he slide down the draft board?
As expected, the internet exploded. Fans and analysts lit up Twitter and other platforms. Some accused the NFL of racism. Others said teams didn’t like Sanders’ confidence or personality. ESPN’s Ryan Clark suggested that his race and swagger may have played a role in teams’ decisions.
After Clark’s comments, the conversation reached a new level on Twitter. One fan wrote, “I’m not a Shedeur Sanders fan but what just happened is straight up racism bro.” Another said, “John mara doesn’t want a black qb.” Some even pointed fingers at the Giants, claiming, “It’s cuz the Giants are racist.”

However, these posts seemed biased overall. Many people quickly pointed out that the first three picks in the draft were all Black players. One user replied, “look I ain’t black so I maybe shouldn’t speak on this but this is quite a wild take considering the first three picks were all black men….” Another echoed, “80% of the first round were black guys. Super racist.”

Backed by that fact, one user asked, “But cam ward is black and went number 1. Why do people always yell racism ?”

The debate is still going on, and we won’t know where Shedeur Sanders will land until Round 2 or 3. But looking at the facts, the racism claims don’t seem to hold up.
