‘Some Good Quarterbacks in the System’ – Ryan Day Makes Promising Remarks About Future of Ohio State QB Room After Will Howard

Ryan Day has no apprehensions about finding a replacement for Will Howard in the 2025 season. After wrapping up the campaign on a high with a College Football Playoff National Championship, expectations would be sky high this upcoming year.

Day, who is known for developing quarterbacks, remained unfazed when asked about his plans to fill the QB1 spot. It is quite clear that he would gamble with existing QBs on the roster, but a transfer portal move is also not out of the question after his success with a prospect like Will Howard.

Ryan Day Vows To Explore Options After Will Howard’s Departure

Even before the title dust has settled, experts and fans have been keen to know coach Day’s next move to fill the QB1 spot. Speaking about his plans, Day mentioned that he would look within, and the program has enough prospects to try.

He would also be looking to explore options from the transfer portal in April, but for now, it’s just grooming the existing talents in the QB room.

“These guys are going to compete their tail off,” Day said on 97.1 The Fan via On3. “And we have some good quarterbacks in the system, and, you know, I shared with all of them that, you know now, this was the week leading up to the national championship game that you know you had an opportunity to watch. And so you got to really utilize that, because that’s exactly what we’re looking for in a leader here at quarterback.

“So when you guys come back in about two weeks, you gotta look different, you gotta walk different, you gotta act different, because now you’re fighting to become the starting quarterback at Ohio State. We have some really talented guys in that room, and, you know, looking forward to see what the competition brings,” he added.

Looking at the QB room, Day will have Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz, and five-star freshman Tavien St. Clair lined up for the QB1 spot.

Sayin could fill the spot, but freshman St. Clair would be pushing for opportunities. However, in all likelihood, Day will have the QB competition sort everything out.
