Central State University announced Santonio Holmes as its next wide receivers coach on Monday. The HBCU is located in Wilberforce, Ohio, between Cincinnati and Columbus. Holmes played college football at Ohio State.
The Division II team went 1-9 in 2024, losing its last seven games and failing to win any games at home. The hope is Holmes’ hire can help develop their wide receivers room.

Santonio Holmes’ Ohio State Career Set the Foundation for Super Bowl MVP Stardom
Holmes won a national championship with the Buckeyes as a redshirt in 2002. He then played three seasons with the program, catching 140 passes for 2,295 yards and 25 touchdowns, gaining 3,123 all-purpose yards. He earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors in 2005 and Second-Team All-Big Ten honors in 2004.
Holmes left college a year early and was taken 25th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He stayed with the Steelers through 2009, catching the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLIII and earning Super Bowl MVP honors.
Holmes was traded to the New York Jets, helping them to an AFC Championship Game run before finishing his career with the Chicago Bears.
He’ll bring his years of wisdom to the Central State Marauders’ receiving room.
