The Penn State Nittany Lions fired head coach James Franklin a month ago, and since then, they haven’t selected a new leader for their football program. Almost everyone has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Franklin. Today, we bring three plausible options to fill the position.

Top 3 Candidates For Penn State Coach
#3 – Eli Drinkwitz (Missouri Tigers)
Eli Drinkwitz has created an interesting roster at Missouri in the last few years. In particular, the 2023 and 2024 seasons showed that the Mizzou Tigers could stand up to SEC powerhouses.
In the last two seasons, they had several upset wins over Top 25 teams and finished as the No. 8 team in the nation in 2023 and the No. 22 team in the nation in 2024. They even looked like potential contenders for a College Football Playoff spot and had a record of 11-2 and 10-3, respectively. The man behind this program could be the man to take the Nittany Lions to the next level.

#2 – Joe Brady (Buffalo Bills)
Since 2024, Joe Brady has led one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL. Before being Buffalo’s offensive coordinator, he was the team’s quarterbacks coach for a couple of years, and before that, the Carolina Panthers’ offensive coordinator. He has some connections to Happy Valley, having been a graduate assistant at Penn State between 2015-2016. He would bring invaluable NFL experience to the Big Ten program.

#1 – Matt Campbell (Iowa State Cyclones)

Matt Campbell is at the moment the most persistent rumor for the new Penn State head coach. Campbell engineered a great season for the Cyclones in 2024, when they finished 11-3 and made it all the way to the Big 12 championship game.
While they fell there, they defeated the Miami Hurricanes at the Pop-Tarts Bowl and were the No. 15 team in the nation at the end of the year. While he hasn’t achieved the same level of consistency this year, the Cyclones started the year as a ranked team but quickly fell off the Top 25.
