Paul Finebaum Questions 10-Win Mark as Ohio State Faces Tough Title Defense Season

Earlier in the week, college football analyst Paul Finebaum discussed whether he thought that Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes football program could win 10 games next season.

While appearing on the popular “Paul Finebaum Show,” Finebaum highlighted how the Buckeyes do have quite a difficult schedule next year against some very good college football powerhouses.

Paul Finebaum’s Ohio State Buckeyes 2025 Analysis

Finebaum outlined how, though he thought the Buckeyes could still make the College Football Playoffs next season, ten was a high number of wins when considering their opponents. Citing the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Michigan Wolverines, and the Texas Longhorns, Finebaum detailed how he had his over/under line at 9.5 wins for the Buckeyes.

Finebaum made these statements on the Paul Finebaum Show, and Athlon Sports college football analyst Jaron Spor described and highlighted Finebaum’s quotes in an article.

“I know they have Texas. They’re at Michigan and Penn State.

How about 9.5? If Ohio State wins nine games, they can still probably make the playoff because that schedule is so difficult,” Finebaum stated.

    Ohio State Buckeyes 2025 Outlook

The Buckeyes are fresh off a national championship this past season after defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoffs final. The Buckeyes had the best statistical defensive unit in the nation, only giving up an average of 12.9 points per game. Offensively, they were a top-ten unit, scoring an average of 37.2 points per game.

However, the program will look very different next season, with many players leaving for the NFL and various coaches moving on to different opportunities.

Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly will be heading to the Las Vegas Raiders, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles will be heading to Big Ten rival Penn State, and various players, including quarterback Will Howard and running back Quinshon Judkins, are expected to be selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

As a result, Day and the Buckeyes will need to replace the talent that is leaving the program this offseason through active recruiting and the transfer portal.

With stars like wide receiver Jeremiah Smith still on the roster, it is still expected that the Buckeyes will compete for a place in the College Football Playoff and the national championship once again next year.
