It is known as the talking season when college football teams are not taking the field to play in a real game.
That means analysts like Paul Finebaum are firing off takes left and right about respective teams.

Paul Finebaum Blasts Indiana as a ‘Fluke’ in College Football Playoff
On the Paul Finebaum Show recently, Finebaum shared his thoughts about Indiana as the Hoosiers head into this season. “You had two really good teams in the Big Ten last year. Indiana was a fluke.”
Anytime those words are said about a contending team that was in the College Football Playoff a season ago, it can get spicy. The Hoosiers were one of the great surprises in the country.
Head coach Curt Cignetti, in his first season in Bloomington, guided the team to 11 wins and that aforementioned berth in the College Football Playoff.
Indiana is likely still considered a basketball school, but the football program definitely resisted that narrative in 2024.
The Big Ten Heading Into 2025
Finebaum slammed the Hoosiers and stated that the conference had two good teams last year. He was referring to the Ohio State Buckeyes, who won the national title, and the Penn State Nittany Lions, who made it to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.
Finebaum has his own opinions, but Indiana and Oregon were good in their inaugural Big Ten seasons. The Ducks also made the College Football Playoff. This means that the Big Ten took up one-third of the College Football Playoff, which isn’t bad at all.
Heading into this season, the Buckeyes will hope to defend their national title, the Nittany Lions are getting veteran quarterback Drew Allar back, the Ducks look poised to contend again, and other teams like Indiana, Michigan, and Washington could always be sneaky.
This conference is one of the best in America and will likely remain so heading into this year.

But make no mistake: Cignetti and the Hoosiers will use Finebaum’s comments as motivation for another big-time season.
