Paul Finebaum was Arch Manning’s biggest supporter in the preseason, predicting him to be the best college football player the audience would see in a decade after Tim Tebow and to win the Heisman Trophy.
However, things have changed now that we’re in the middle of the season as Texas sits at an overall record of 7-2, after a rocky start in 2025.
Talking about his prediction for the Texas-Georgia game in the latest episode on the DawgNation YouTube channel, Finebaum went back to his earlier statements and admitted that he was wrong about a few things. He joked that he had Manning winning the Heisman and Gunner Stockton selling insurance somewhere in Georgia.
“So, I think it was maybe you or somebody that tweeted out earlier today, I can’t remember who it was that the the preseason top 10. I mean, it’s been obliterated. We all know that. And as far as Arch Manning, I had him winning the Heisman and I had Gunner Stockton selling insurance somewhere in Georgia with Mike Bobo,” Finebaum said (5:22).
“Gunnar Stockton has been an absolute star. So here we are. Texas is the one limping. They’re not so much limping but they’re in such a desperate situation where Georgia has a little bit of air to and room to breathe,” he added.

Stephen A. Smith Gets 100% Real On Impact Of Having Arch Manning In The Playoffs
When the Longhorns started their 2025 journey, many fans quickly came to the realization that they might not see Steve Sarkisian’s team in the playoffs this year given how they were performing at the beginning.
However, things have changed since then. Texas is predicted to end the season with a 9-3 record and they might have a real shot to play in the 2025 playoffs, especially with the Longhorns securing the No. 10 spot in the latest rankings.
Talking about how Manning’s presence in the playoffs matter to the “people on television,” Stephen A. Smith said on the ESPN First Take show:
“Arch Manning being there, that doesn’t hurt. We don’t like to admit it, but dammit people on television are the last people that get to deny it. Because it’s about ratings. You want to turn on your tube and see stuff that people actually want to watch. That does matter.”
Steve Sarkisian’s Texas is set to face Kirby Smart’s Georgia at the Sanford Stadium on Saturday in their week 12 showdown.
