The number on the spread had come down a bit from the opening number. The line originally opened with Oklahoma State as a 9.5-point favorite, but that was bet down all the way to -7.5. And while this number sat at -8 on Thursday night, it jumped back up to -10 on Friday into Saturday.

The total has gone the other way and has climbed since the opening number. It initially opened at 56.5 and has climbed to 61.5.

Prediction for Arkansas vs. Oklahoma State

Taylen Green is coming off a stellar performance, where he completed 16 of 23 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns. While his success against Arkansas-Pine Bluff was impressive, he’ll face a much tougher test against Oklahoma State’s defense. Still, Green has demonstrated his ability to make big plays and command the offense, showing he’s capable of performing even when the competition ramps up.

As one of the few true workhorse running backs in college football, the Oklahoma State offense runs through Ollie Gordon. A junior with immense talent, Gordon consistently carries a heavy workload, often surpassing 25 carries per game, and rarely disappoints with his production.

When it comes to pass catchers in this one, it’s a bit of a toss-up. the Cowboys are never going to be super pass-heavy. Arkansas played in such a big blowout on Saturday that most of their pass catchers were out of the game by halftime. For the Razorbacks, it starts with Tyrone Broden, and they also feature an excellent pass-catching tight end in Hasz.

Still, Oklahoma State boasts a balanced offensive attack that starts with the running game and looks to force the defense to stack the box to stop Gordon.

On the other hand, Arkansas has a dynamic dual-threat quarterback — and with offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino at the helm, its offense is poised to be dangerous. In their Week 1 blowout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Razorbacks scored 10 touchdowns on 10 possessions.

Arkansas’ real question is on the defensive side of the football.

The Razorbacks ranked 80th in team defense in 2023, allowing nearly 28 points per game and an average of 154 rushing yards per game. If that hasn’t improved, Gordon and the Cowboys’ offense will run roughshod over Arkansas.

But I think people are sleeping on Arkansas a bit — primarily because of the horrid finish to 2023. They’re going to make the Cowboys’ defense work, and they’re going to force Oklahoma State to beat them with a properly balanced running and passing attack.

Oklahoma State will still pull out the victory, but it’ll be a bit closer than some may think.

The Prediction: Oklahoma State 34, Arkansas 27
