Inside Ohio State’s Push to Land 4-Star QB Luke Fahey Amid Fierce SEC Competition

According to ON3 Sports, the Buckeyes face fierce competition for the quarterback prospect, with interest from Ole Miss, Oregon, Auburn, Florida State, and SMU. Mission Viejo is likely to commit to Ole Miss.

In a recent article on ON3 Sports, College Football Recruiting and Transfer Portal expert Steve Wiltfong revealed some key details surrounding the 4-star recruit’s potential commitment.

“Indiana, Stanford, and Oklahoma State are a few that Fahey is keen on, but an offer from the Buckeyes would be a game-changer. Ohio State quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler has been leading the charge in recruiting Fahey.”  Wiltfong wrote in his recent article.

“The On3 Industry tabs Fahey as the nation’s No. 23 quarterback. As a junior, he completed over 76 percent of his attempts for 1,638 yards and 17 touchdowns with zero interceptions.” The Transfer portal expert added.

According to 247’s sports recruitment rankings, the Mission Viejo Quarterback is the 23rd best QB in the 2026 recruitment class, with Jared Curtis, who committed to Georgia recently, topping the list.

Despite interest from Ole Miss, the Quarterback revealed that he would heavily consider an offer from Ohio State following his recent visit.

“It’s a dream school for me and my parents!” Fahey told On3.

According to 247 Sports Industry Rankings, Ohio State has also had one of the best 2026 recruitment cycles in College Football, ranking them third overall with 13 commitments, with 4-star Wide Receiver prospect Chris Henry Jr headlining the class.

Ohio State Set For 2025 Quarterback Battle After Transfer Portal Signing.

With the recent Transfer Portal pickup of Quarterback Eli Brickhandler from Houston, Ohio State currently have 4 potential starters on their roster ahead of the 2025 season, as Head Coach Ryan Day gets ready to make a bid decision.

“I felt like Lincoln, going into the spring game, was a little bit ahead of Julian. And then I thought, if you just watch the game, Julian probably performed a little bit better than Lincoln during the spring game. And here we are,” Day explained, when questioned on who would start going into 2025.

Going into 2025, many believed that 5-star Quarterback prospect Julian Sayin would be the starter going into 2025, widely regarded as one of the best prospects from the 2024 recruitment class and being touted as the successor to Will Howard.

Meanwhile, Kienholz is a redshirt sophomore rated as a four-star prospect. Kienholz played just five games during his career, with 111 passing yards for a completion rate of 45.5%.
