The Ohio State Buckeyes, coached by Ryan Day, just had one of their players commit a huge error in their most important game of the 2025 season so far. On Saturday, Dec. 6, the 2025 Buckeyes face coach Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers for this year’s Big Ten conference championship game in the latter’s home pitch, the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana in which may also determine postseason positioning.
Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, their dream season has seemingly come to a screeching halt as their hopes for a conference championship were thwarted by the Hoosiers through an intense three-point defeat, 13-10. Indiana bounced on their 7-0 run in the third quarter to uncork the victory, through which both teams were eventually held scoreless in the final period. At halftime, the Hoosiers were down by four points, 10-6.
But, in a now viral moment all over social media, Ohio State’s loss may have come to one play in the dying minutes of the game. As uploaded by college football reporter Trey Wallace on X/Twitter, place kicker Jayden Fielding missed an all-important punt kick with 2:48 left in the game. Had he scored on the freebie, the Buckeyes would’ve been in striking distance of winning the matchup that determines who comes out on top of the Big Ten.

As the whole Ohio State faithful now turns the blame towards Fielding for his blunder, they are all just wishing now that the loss does not derail their chances of winning this year’s national championship, as their college football playoffs seeding now rests on the fate of the selection committee’s process. Reactions all over social media from individuals on the sequence have now filled up trends in the college football world.

The Ohio State Buckeyes Were Undefeated In the 2025 Collegiate Football Regular Season
Perhaps what makes the Ohio State Buckeyes’ loss and Jayden Fielding’s miss more disheartening is the fact that the Buckeyes were actually undefeated in their 2025 regular season campaign.
Coach Ryan Day‘s team finished with an overall record of 12-0 (9-0 Big Ten) heading into the matchup against the Indiana Hoosiers. Nevertheless, the Buckeyes are still more than likely to head into this year’s postseason play.
The Hoosiers, on the other hand, cap off their Big Ten second seed campaign with an undefeated overall record of 13-0.
