Notre Dame Offers Scholarship to Larry Fitzgerald’s Son After Key Recruiting Discussion

The Fighting Irish have added another NFL legacy name to their recruiting radar. Notre Dame officially extended a scholarship offer to Devin Fitzgerald, son of future NFL Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald, earlier this week. The 2026 class wide receiver from Brophy Prep in Arizona has already made multiple visits to South Bend.

Standing at 6’2″ and 195 pounds, the younger Fitzgerald has been making a name for himself on the field. As a junior, he recorded impressive stats with 52 catches for 720 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games. His recruitment has been gaining momentum with 31 scholarship offers already on the table.

Recruiting Heats Up: Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame Extends Offer to Son of Cardinals Hall of Famer

Devin Fitzgerald announced the offer on social media posting “After a great discussion with Coach @Tim_MikeB, I’m proud to announce that I’ve earned an offer from the University of Notre Dame.”

The offer comes after Fitzgerald has already made three unofficial visits to Notre Dame. His first visit occurred in June 2024 when he participated in a camp and performed in front of Irish coaches. He returned in November 2024 to attend the Florida State game and made another trip for Junior Day in January 2025.

Head coach Marcus Freeman and receivers coach Michael Brown have been leading Notre Dame’s recruiting efforts for Fitzgerald. This move aligns with Notre Dame’s broader strategy of pursuing high-profile recruits and NFL legacy players in the 2026 class, including Julius Jones Jr., another receiver with NFL bloodlines.

Competition for Fitzgerald’s commitment remains fierce. The three-star prospect has scheduled an official visit to UCLA on June 12, with Stanford, North Carolina and Michigan also in contention for future visits. Fitzgerald’s connection to Notre Dame includes playing at the same high school as recent Irish draft pick Benjamin Morrison.

The relationship between Fitzgerald and Notre Dame continues to develop through the recruiting process. With his combination of NFL pedigree, on-field production and academic profile, Fitzgerald represents exactly the type of student-athlete Notre Dame typically pursues under Freeman’s leadership.

Notre Dame fans will be watching closely as Fitzgerald’s recruitment unfolds throughout 2025. His blend of size, athleticism and football intelligence has drawn comparisons to his legendary father. If the Fighting Irish can secure his commitment, it would mark another significant recruiting victory for a program looking to build championship caliber talent at the wide receiver position.
