Two programs are currently being cited as reasons why the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the BYU Cougars were not included in this year’s postseason play. On Monday, Dec. 8, analyst Clay Travis uploaded a video on @Outkick on X/Twitter, in which he named the Tulane Green Wave and the JMU Dukes as the teams Notre Dame and BYU should be blaming for their playoff snubs.
According to Travis, both Tulane and JMU are undeserving of their 2025 college football playoff berths, and that the Fighting Irish and the Cougars should be part of postseason play. Travis went on to discuss how the current collegiate football playoff landscape should really be determined, claiming that it does not favor squads that have proven their worth.
“The goal should be to reward the best teams, period. If Tulane and James Madison can get into the top 16 or they can get into the top 24, more power to ’em, they earned it. They’re not two of the 12 best teams in college football. If you want to be angry, Notre Dame and BYU should be angry at Tulane and James Madison. And the fact that we created a playoff system where both of those teams could steal bids,” Travis explained.

Coach Marcus Freeman’s Fighting Irish finished with an overall record of 10-2, and recently decided not to partake in any bowl games as they officially put their 2025 campaign to rest without playing in a conference. Coach Kalani Sitake’s Cougars concluded the season with an overall record of 11-2 (8-1 Big 12). They are now preparing to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

Clay Travis Opines That There Is No Way That Tulane Or JMU Could Win The 2025 National Title
Doubling down on his claim that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the BYU Cougars should be looking at the JMU Dukes and the Tulane Green Wave for college football playoff snubs, Clay Travis said there is no way that JMU or the Green Wave can bring home the national title.
“ James Madison and Tulane being included in the college football playoff is college football’s version of DEI didn’t earn it. No reason whatsoever. When the goal is to be a meritocracy and award the teams that are the best, if you’re gonna tell me the whole purpose of the college football playoff is to award the best teams, there is no world in which James Madison or Tulane could win A national championship. They didn’t earn it,” Travis said.
