Bill Belichick, widely known as one of the greatest football coaches of all time, was recently hired to bring the UNC Tar Heels back to the Promised Land. While Rome wasn’t built in a day, Belichick is already taking a “hands-on” approach to shaping the future of football at UNC Chapel Hill.
During his tenure with New England, Belichick won six Super Bowl championships and finished with an outstanding coaching record of 333 wins and 178 losses. Now leading the UNC football team, Belichick looks to continue his winning ways on the football field, this time on the college level.

Bill Belichick Brings a More Hands-On Approach to UNC Football’s Future
At UNC’s first practice session, Belichick spoke with the media and talked about how he views his new role, which was posted on Wednesday.

“͏Great thing about being head coach, I can coach anybody I want,” Belichick said. “I can coach the line, I can yell to tight ends. I yelled to DBs. I yelled at the kickers. I can go to any group I want and coach them.”
This shows that not much has changed for Belichick between his time in New England and his upcoming time with UNC. Belichick has always been a hands-on coach, and he can make people better just by being present.
“You see something that you want to address and talk to a player about. You can go in there and talk to them, and so I’ve been very fortunate. I’ve had the opportunity to coach every position on the field on offense, defense and special teams.”
“If I can help a player, I’m here to help him. That’s my job,” Belichick said. “And that’s coaches, players, all of us, and so not all about individual notoriety right now. It’s about trying to put together a team.”
Belichick has been laying out how he plans to run the team right in front of the media and fans of UNC’s eyes. He’s not one to just shrug anything off if something has to be fixed; Belichick is adamant about fixing the problem to improve the team should certain problems arise.
Belichick comes to UNC not only to hopefully bring some winning ways but also to attempt to change the culture. With their last truly great season coming all the way back in 2015 when they went 11-3, Belichick will look to get back to that type of football.

It’s not to say UNC has been bad recently, but they’ve been a very average football team for the past decade, not winning much and not losing much. However, with Belichick now leading the team and his new “hands-on” approach, we could see UNC return to its roots and get back to some winning football.
