Nick Saban Says This Alabama QB Embodies What Real Development Looks Like

There is a very real chance that Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson could be the starter heading into this season for head coach Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide. It also seems as though former Alabama head coach Nick Saban would be in full support of that.

Why Nick Saban Believes Ty Simpson Is the Blueprint for a Homegrown Quarterback

While speaking at a recent golf event, Saban chatted about who Simpson is as a quarterback, saying, “I think his example is a true example of development. He matured for two years, and now he’s getting an opportunity, and his experiences will help him be succesful.”

While Simpson is still in the midst of a quarterback battle with the likes of Austin Mack and Keelon Russell, it seems as though his experience could help him win the job in the end.

But still, that will be up to DeBoer and his coaching staff.

Why Alabama Should Choose Ty Simpson to Start

The simple fact of the matter is that Simpson has been on the team since the 2022 season, which is why Saban is so high on him. He spent two seasons as a backup for Saban before he spent the 2024 season as a backup for DeBoer.

Now, it appears as though the 2025 season could be a great opportunity for him to take the starting reins. The former five-star recruit has patiently waited for his time and has been solid when given opportunities to take the field.

In his collegiate career, the Tennessee native has completed 29 passes out of 50 attempts for 381 yards.

But now, it might be time for him to show the fan base what he has up his sleeve.

Standing at 6’2″ and weighing close to 220 pounds, he has great size and athletic ability to run the offense that DeBoer wants to run. He also has a benchmark of nine wins to surpass.

The Tide winning just nine games in 2024 was more than a disappointment in DeBoer’s first season, and if Simpson is named the starter, he will have to guide the Tide beyond that win total.

Time will only tell on that front.
