“Ultimate Team Guy”: Fans Pay Tribute As Browns Legend Joel Bitonio Announces Retirement

After 12 years and 178 games, all with the Cleveland Browns, veteran guard Joel Bitonio is hanging up his cleats. Bitonio revealed his decision to retire on Tuesday, with the Cleveland Browns confirming the news in a press release.

Bitonio, who started in all 178 games and made the Pro Bowl seven times, could be considered for induction into the Hall of Fame. He is what many consider to be a “lifer” for the Browns, staying loyal to the team from start to finish, leading fans to post tributes to the guard.

“Ultimate team guy. Best wishes to him and his family. Thanks for everything Joel,” one Browns fan commented.

“The Dawg Pound losing another cornerstone… Browns fans deserve better than just memories and farewell posts,” another commenter noted.

“Thank you for your service Joel, you gave everything you had. As a browns fan it sucks we could never get it done but it wasn’t because of lack of effort on your part,” another Browns fan added.

“Welp. This brought a tear to my eye, big guy. We’ll miss you. Thank you for everything! See you again in Canton!” one fan said.

“Thank you Joe. Especially because not many players spend their whole career with one franchise,” one person pointed out.

“An absolute legend of the Dawg Pound! 🧡 Thank you, Joel Bitonio, for everything you’ve given to this city and this organization. You played with such heart and consistency every single Sunday. You’ll be deeply missed on that offensive line!” a fan added.

Cleveland Browns Face Dilemma With Joel Bitonio Retirement

There were question marks regarding Joel Bitonio’s future with the Browns, as questions regarding his health came up. This led to him deciding to ultimately retire, and this might have a few repercussions for the Browns.

For their guards, the team still has Zion Johnson, Elgton Jenkins, and Teven Jenkins, but Bitonio had been their pillar on the left side of the field for years. So, they might be overhauling their depth and looking for a replacement, possibly placing rookie left tackle Spencer Fano in that position or another young star.
