NFL Sunday host Curt Menefee recently got in a heated debate with former New York City Mayor Eric Adams in the wake of Zohran Mamdani’s win. Menefee is also the co-host of the local Fox5 show “GoodDay New York”. In that capacity, he has interviewed Mayor Adams on several occasions during the latter’s tenure.
Now, Adams has become a lame duck mayor, following Mamdani’s win in the mayoral election last week. With that context, Adams appeared on “GoodDay New York” to talk about the future of some members of his administration in the incoming Mamdani administration. Previously, Adams’s time in office has been tainted by a controversial arrangement with the Trump justice department that resulted in federal corruption charges being dismissed.
During the interview, Menefee asked Adams if he believes that NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch will retain her position once the new mayor takes over. While it seemed like Mayor Adams confirmed that Tisch will remain as the police commissioner, Menefee wanted confirmation on the topic:
“I’m asking you the question. You said he wants her to stay and you said we will see members of your administration stay including her. So if you’re saying that you’re going to see her stay, that means, I’m asking, do you know that she’s going to stay. That’s all. I’m just trying to get clarification when you’re saying one thing but then you’re coming back and saying, ‘well he’s saying that,’ which he did. I’m asking do you know if she is going to stay. That’s all I’m asking,” said Menefee .
This put Adams on the defensive, saying that he didn’t know how many times he had to repeat himself before they believed him. He complained that Menefee constantly did this to him, putting into question his answers.
To this, the host of the show replied:
“You said something and you weren’t clear on it and I asked for a clarification and then you got defensive about it. Then I got defensive. This happens, so I owe you an apology for getting defensive and you getting defensive, so thank you very much for joining us though, I appreciate it. Good luck to you,” Menefee said.
Adams got even more defensive, demanding that Menefee not put words into his mouth that he hasn’t said:
“You guys have a great day and don’t define when I get defensive, define yourself and I’ll define myself. I didn’t get defensive, I answered your question,” Adams said dismissively.
Time will tell, but the decision is now Zohran Mamdani’s to take. Mamdani will take possession of the office of Mayor in January 2026.

Curt Menefee is a longtime analyst for Fox Sports, who currently serves as the co-host of Fox’s NFL pre-game “Fox NFL Sunday”. He has worked on the network since 1997, serving at several times as co-host, or analyst of their coverage of the NFL, MLB, and UFC.
Since 2024, he has also been the co-host of “GoodDay New York” on the local New York City station, Fox5.
