Newly minted Los Angeles Rams star Myles Garrett threw the first pitch in Saturday’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels. The former Cleveland Browns star was recently part of a blockbuster trade that sent him to Los Angeles in exchange for Jared Verse and three draft picks.
The two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year has quickly inserted himself into the community of the West Coast metropolis. He commemorated his first throw during the game between the two MLB teams that call Los Angeles their home by posting on Tuesday a series of pictures of his visit to Dodger Stadium during the weekend.
In the post, he could be seen with his girlfriend, Winter Olympian Chloe Kim, in full Dodgers apparel with several members of the team, including coach Dave Roberts. In another nod to the culture of Los Angeles, he was wearing a jersey featuring the face of late Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant and a Dodgers baseball cap.
The game ended in a victory for the Los Angeles Dodgers, with the National League franchise beating the American League neighbors 9-2.
Myles Garrett’s message to the Cleveland Browns fanbase
Myles Garrett had spent the entirety of his almost decade-long NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, who chose him as the first overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. It had long been believed that the player and the organization wanted to see him become a ‘one-helmet player’.
In the end, this didn’t happen. After being traded to the Rams, Garrett published a statement via social media where he said his farewell to the Cleveland fandom, and also explained his reasons for leaving, although the trade wasn’t his decision:
“What I can say with complete honesty is this: I gave this city everything I had,” he wrote while also thanking the team, his fans and the entire community. “I suited up and wore those colors with pride, and I don’t regret a second of being part of this storied franchise. Every Sunday. Every offseason. Every play. Every down. Every moment. You gave me more in return than I can ever repay.”
Browns general manager Andrew Berry has denied the theory that Garrett requested the trade, as some believe, and that it was the Rams who approached the Browns in what seems like a logical decision for both teams.
