Jaguars’ Patrick Herbert Gets Candid on Facing Brother Justin Ahead of Week 11 Matchup

Brothers Justin Herbert and Patrick Herbert are scheduled to take the field against each other in the Week 11 matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Chargers. Justin is the starting quarterback of the Chargers, while Patrick serves as tight end, but has yet to make his debut.

Ahead of the highly anticipated showdown between the two brothers, Patrick talked about his feelings about taking the field against Justin.

“Yeah, it’s awesome,” Patrick told reporters. “I think we kind of take for granted sometimes looking at him, he’s been in the league for five or six years, whatever. And I think it’s a big accomplishment. That’s really cool.

“I don’t think we’ve ever played on opposite teams,” he said. “Maybe in fifth grade or something like that. Maybe like rec basketball. Growing up, he was a little bit older, a little bit more mature, so he’d usually take it. Recently, we’re not too competitive now. He’s got a football season to get ready for.”

When asked if he looked up at the NFL calendar and saw that his Jaguars will face the Chargers in Week 11, Patrick said:

“No, I didn’t really look at the schedule. That wasn’t something I was too worried about.”

Patrick Herbert was undrafted in the 2025 NFL draft but was signed as a UDFA by the Jaguars.

Patrick played for the Oregon Ducks in college football. He played six seasons there, catching 31 receptions for 388 yards and four touchdowns. He played one season with his brother Justin in Oregon, who was later selected sixth overall by the Chargers in the 2020 NFL draft.

Patrick Herbert Fondly Remembers Jaguars’ Playoff Comeback Against Chargers

During the same interaction with Patrick Herbert, the tight end recalled the incredible comeback from the Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field, Jacksonville in the Wild Card round of the 2022-23 playoffs.

The Jan. 14 encounter saw the Chargers take a 27-0 lead before the Jaguars registered the largest comeback in franchise history and third largest in NFL history to win the game 31-30. Recalling that match, Patrick said:

“This city will celebrate it. Probably not one of Justin’s favorites,” Patrick said. “Probably just in my basement watching it with my friends. I don’t remember exactly, but yeah, I remember that game.”

It remains to be seen if Patrick Herbert gets a nod to take the field for some snaps when they face Justin Herbert’s Chargers this week.
