The New York Giants decided on Monday that they were done with coach Brian Daboll following Sunday’s 24-20 defeat at the hands of the Chicago Bears. With the defeat, the NFC East team’s record worsened to 2-8. It seemed that this poor record was more than sufficient for the Giants’ front office to say enough is enough and part ways with him.

Many names have been suggested as potential replacements, including Bill Belichick, Mike McCarthy, and Lane Kiffin, among others. ESPN’s Mike Greenberg believes we should add one more name to the list: Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin.
Tomlin, who’s worth $30 million according to Celebrity Net Worth, has been coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2007. He won Super Bowl XLIII with them in 2009.
On Tuesday’s edition of “Get Up”, Greenberg said:
“You’ve got Malik Nabers, you’ve got Jaxson Dart, you’ve got Abdul Carter, and a bunch of other good players. That’s going to be the most desirable job for coaches out there. I’m just going to throw a name into the conversation. Mike Tomlin. If Mike Tomlin and the Steelers, at the end of this season, decide it’s time for an amicable parting, that feels like it would be a perfect spot.”
While everyone in the studio seemed to agree with him that the Giants are a highly desirable franchise to coach, when he brought up Mike Tomlin, some of the other analysts on the show seemed to laugh in disbelief.
Why Did The New York Giants Fire Brian Daboll?
It seems that the ownership of the New York Giants isn’t only dissatisfied with the team’s performance this season, but also with the overall lack of success in the last few seasons. In a statement released on Monday, the owners of the team explained as much as their reasoning for firing Daboll.
“The past few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing, and we have not met our expectations for this franchise,” Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch said Monday in a joint statement. “We understand the frustrations of our fans, and we will work to deliver a significantly improved product.”
In three and a half years in charge of the team, Daboll only had a winning record once. Back in 2022, when he had just taken over the team, they finished with an unremarkable 9-7.
