Can Kansas City Chiefs Still Make The Post-Season? AFC Playoff Picture Explored Following Week 14 loss

Entering Week 14 at 6-6, the Kansas City Chiefs were in a must-win situation facing a tough Houston Texans team.

In a close, defensive game last night, the Texans handed the Chiefs a 20-10 loss and bumping their record down to 6-7, which is the first time they’ve been below .500 this season.

Following the loss, the Chiefs are currently a non-playoff team as they hold the 10th seed in the AFC. They sit a spot below the 6-7 Baltimore Ravens and two spots below the 8-5 Indianapolis Colts.

The easiest way for the Chiefs to make the post season is winning out. If KC can win the rest of its games and finish with a 10-7 record, it would certainly increase its chances of getting one of the three wildcard spots.

The Chiefs could also get in if the Chargers 10-7 or worse with losses to both the Broncos and them. The Colts finishing 9-8 could also give the Chiefs a good chance of slipping into the postseason.

As things currently stand, the Broncos hold the No. 1 seed in the AFC at 11-2 followed up by the 11-2 New England Patriots holding the No. 2 seed. The 9-4 Jacksonville Jaguars hold the third seed as the 7-6 Pittsburgh Steelers hold the fourth seed.

The three wildcard spots currently belong to the Buffalo Bills (9-4), Los Angeles Chargers (8-5), and the Houston Texans (8-5.)

When’s The Last Time the Kansas City Chiefs Missed The Playoffs?

It will be the first time in over a decade that the Kansas City Chiefs will not be in the playoffs if they can’t pull off a miraculous run. The last time the Chiefs missed the playoffs was the 2014 season. The Chiefs have also made seven-straight AFC Championship games, dating back to 2018.

NFL.com currently has the Chiefs’ playoff percentage at 15%. This is prior to tonight’s Monday night kickoff between the 8-4 Los Angeles Chargers, (who are in the AFC West), and the 8-4 Philadelphia Eagles.
