Quinn Ewers, the former Texas Longhorns quarterback, has officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. This news immediately left fans and analysts speculating about his future. Quinn Ewers’s Draft Stock Is a Bit Questionable

Once one of the most promising prospects in college football, Ewers’ junior season saw highs and lows that have sparked debate over his draft stock.

Notably, Ewers wrapped up his final college season with some good stats: 3,472 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He led Texas to the College Football Playoff semifinals, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.

However, the season didn’t unfold as many expected. Preseason projections had Ewers as one of the top quarterbacks in college football, but his performance dipped compared to 2023.

His quarterback rating dropped from 158.6 in 2023 to 149.0 in 2024, a decline that raised concerns. NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah highlighted these issues on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“With Ewers, I watched him over the summer and was excited about him coming into the year. I felt like I was higher on him than a lot of people,” Jeremiah said. “Now, he got hurt, and one of the things I’ve got to try and figure out and get information on as we go through the spring is how much of that impacted him. Because he didn’t play as well. He wasn’t as urgent and quick.”

Injuries plagued Ewers throughout his career at Texas, and his junior season was no exception. He missed time due to an oblique injury and a high ankle sprain, both of which seemed to affect his performance on the field. While he showed flashes of brilliance, the inconsistency left scouts and analysts questioning whether he could handle the demands of the NFL.

Following Texas’ 28-14 loss to the eventual National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes in the CFP Semifinal, Ewers faced a major decision about his future. He had three options: declare for the NFL Draft, return to Texas for another season where he would compete with Arch Manning for the starting job, or transfer to another program.

Ultimately, Ewers chose to enter the draft, reportedly turning down an $8 million transfer offer in the process.

The Pre-Draft Process Gives Ewers a Chance To Prove Himself

Many analysts believe he could have benefited from another year in college to refine his skills and address concerns about his durability.

Pro Football Focus ranked Ewers as the seventh best quarterback in the draft. It was a significant drop from his preseason status as one of the top two signal-callers alongside Georgia’s Carson Beck. Jeremiah echoed these concerns in his conversation with McAfee.

“I saw some good things from his tape. I saw someone who I thought had some twitch to him and quick eyes, quick release. I was hoping he was going to take that next step,” Jeremiah explained.

Unfortunately, Ewers didn’t fully capitalize on the potential he displayed earlier in his career, leaving questions about whether he’s ready to compete at the professional level.

In 2024, the oblique injury sidelined him for two games, adding to a list of setbacks that included other significant injuries during his college career.

Despite these issues, Ewers’ college career stats paint a picture of a quarterback with immense potential. He completed 737 of his 1,135 passes for 9,128 yards, 68 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. His leadership was evident as he guided Texas to back-to-back CFP semifinal appearances.

As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, Ewers has a critical opportunity to address the doubts surrounding him. Teams will scrutinize his physical health, mental toughness, and overall readiness during the pre-draft process.
