Kyle Cunanan, the ex-Charlotte player, has joined Nebraska as their latest transfer, after it was confirmed late Thursday night.
It is not a news anymore that the only place-kicker from Cal’s roster is looking for a new home, as it was reported weeks ago when he entered the transfer portal.
The decision to enter the transfer portal came bearing confusion among football fans, given he committed to Cal just four months ago. Moreover, he is the only place-kicker on the roster of Golden Bears. Throughout Spring, Cunanan seemed to be performing well enough.
With confirmation coming from multiple sources, it seems like the ex-Charlotte kicker is ready to make an impact in his new home.

From Cal to Nebraska: Why Kyle Cunanan’s Transfer Could Be Impactful
The 180-pounder kicker spent the 2023 and 2024 campaigns at Charlotte before making the transfer to Cal back in December. Before entering the transfer portal back in April 24, he did the place kicking for Cal in the spring practices.

Cunanan went 14-of-20 on field goals, with a career long of 49 yards during his two campaigns at Charlotte. In 2024, the kicker played in just three games and was 5-of-5 with a long of 31 yards. Moreover, the season before that, Cunanan went 9-of-15 with a long of 49 yards.
That is not all: in the 51 attempts over the course of the two campaigns, Cunanan recorded 22 touchbacks.
As things stand, Cunanan joins the kicker group of Nebraska that also has Tristan Alvano and John Hohl. Alvano made three of his four field goal attempts last campaign before missing 10 games for Nebraska due to an injury. On the other hand, John Hohl converted 10 out of the 15 goal attempts during the absence of Tristan Alvano.
It seems like Cunanan will join the likes of another great quarterback as Nebraska has recruited the successor of Dylan Raiola in the form of Trae Taylor, even though the team looked set for the time being.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out in the locker room after the arrival of these big names into the squad. Coming off of a 7-5 campaign this past fall, Nebraska will open its season against Cincinnati on August 28th in Kansas City.
