WATCH: Miami QB Commit Dereon Coleman’s Bullet Pass Wows at Defcon United 7v7

When Dereon Coleman said he was committed to Miami, he completely meant it. And from the looks of it, the Miami Hurricanes might have won the lottery. The four-star quarterback from Jones High School in Orlando, Florida, decided to join Miami in July 2024. Of course, there have been many recruiting efforts from other programs, but he has not budged. And no doubt, it is easy to see why so many programs want him.

Coleman is a dual-threat quarterback in high school football. He has thrown over 3,400 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. He even led Jones High to the state title game. But above all, Coleman seems to thrive under pressure. His performance at the Defcon United 7v7 tournament is an example of exactly that.

Dereon Coleman’s Bullet Pass Is One for the Books

If there were doubts about Dereon Coleman’s arm strength, they have now been silenced. His latest play at the Defcon United 7v7 was everything a QB1 needs. And Miami might just have made a brilliant decision bringing him on.

During the game, Coleman made a brilliant throw to his teammate Larry Miles, threading the needle with pinpoint accuracy. The pass was so perfect that On3’s Chad Simmons took to X and wrote, “Great snag by Miles. Strong hands.”

The Miami commit’s ability to place the ball exactly where it needs to be will be a nightmare for the defense. And Coleman is showing that he shouldn’t be taken lightly, time and time again. Coleman was already ranked 22nd among quarterbacks and 332nd nationally. But looking at the throw, those rankings might just need an update. Additionally, the person who reeled it in is no ordinary receiver.

Larry Miles transferred to Jones High for his junior year. And since, he has had around 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns. Miles unapologetically thrives in big moments, and big things happen when he comes together with a QB like Coleman. Remember that Coleman’s performance at Defcon United 7v7 was no one-time wonder.

National analyst Cody Bellaire has even said, “His natural whip and ability to deliver strike after strike allowed the Defcon United offense to light up the scoreboard all afternoon. His ability to manipulate the football and make throws that simply other quarterbacks can’t make really stood out.”

Evidently, the Hurricanes have something big brewing.

Miami’s quarterback pipeline is officially stacked. They have former Georgia QB Carson Beck joining them. They also have names like Emory Williams and Luke Nickel on the roster. If Coleman’s performance is testimony, then the Hurricanes might just have their next star QB in waiting.
