Lewis Obiorah’s Top 5 Landing Spots

At 7’2, with a 7’7 wingspan at 19 years old, the British talent has all the physical characteristics to make it at the top level, coming off a solid season. averaging just under 11 points per game.

    Michigan State Spartans

In a recent episode of their podcast, College Basketball analysts “Sleepers Media” discussed the possibility and likelihood of a rumor that involved Obiorah making the move overseas to Michigan State. Throughout their analysis, they described the British talent as being extremely “raw” and potentially still learning how to play the game of Basketball.

The Michigan Spartans currently have a glaring need for the Center position, with Senior Mady Sissoko deciding to enter the transfer portal in his final year of eligibility. This means that Junior Center Carson Cooper could be thrust into the starting role, while Obiorah could provide cover as an understudy as he develops his game.

    Duke Blue Devils

Going into the 2025-26 season, the Blue Devils are set to lose a host of key talent, including the NBA-bound and predicted first overall pick Cooper Flagg.

Duke is also set to lose one of their biggest physical presences on the court, 7’2″ Center Khaman Maluach, who averaged 8.6 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting 71.2% from the field last season, declared for the 2025 NBA Draft.

Looking ahead to next season, Duke will most likely have a lineup filled with young prospects, including the likes of Cameron Boozer and Nikolas Khamenia.

The 7’2 British talent could fill a necessary gap all while being developed alongside a host of young talent currently at Duke, especially as the Blue Devils currently have only one Center on their depth chart: sophomore center Patrick Ngongba II.

    Ohio Bobcats

In a recent post on his Twitter, Obiorah actually revealed his intent to make the move to American College Basketball, announcing that he had received a Division 1 offer from Ohio University.

Despite what analysts have suggested about the Brit still needing time to develop, looking at Ohio’s roster currently, with no natural center currently rostered, the British talent would be thrust into a starting role in his first season as it currently stands, which could potentially hamper his development.

    UIC Flames

Recently, Obiorah also announced that he had received a second DI offer from MVC school, the University of Illinois-Chicago, similar to the situation with Ohio.

UIC currently does not have any registered natural centers on their roster, meaning the Flames or the Bobcats would be the ideal schools for Obiorah if he were looking to start right away, with the 7’2″ British Center being a seamless fit as the final piece of the puzzle for both of these rosters.

    St John’s Red Storm

Looking at St John’s Red Storm as a possible destination, Obiorah would certainly sit out his first season, or play primarily as a backup, similar to Freshman Khaman Makar. Head Coach Rick Pitino currently has a host of foreign talent with a similar build to Obiorah on his roster, with two centers in  Nigerian Vince Iwuchukwu and Khaman Makar.

The British talent would have plenty of room for development under a top Head Coach, with a scheme fit that is perfectly suited to his physicality and talents.
