Marcus Mbow’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Marcus Mbow played at both right guard and right tackle in college, but projects better on the interior at the NFL level. There’s a chance he could stick outside with his explosive, fluid atheticism, but he might not have the level of elite quickness as an athlete to fully compensate for his sub-33″ arms.

Nevertheless, at either spot, Mbow brings viable two-phase utility. In pass protection, he’s explosive laterally, with good natural leverage, incredibly violent hands, and impressive stunt vision.

In the running game, he’s one of the best in-space blockers in the class, and particularly thrives when he can climb to the second level and attack defenders in zone looks. Best at guard, serviceable at tackle, with some distant projectability to center, Mbow’s versatility is his greatest strength.

    Marcus Mbow’s NFL Draft Projection

In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, Mbow landed in Round 3 with the 74th overall pick. James Fragoza has this to say:

The Panthers need reinforcements up front, and Marcus Mbow can quite literally play at all five positions. That said, he’s best on the inside, where his smaller stature and plus-athleticism can succeed.

And in CSN’s recent 3-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Brian Burden had this to say about Mbow’s selection to the Detroit Lions in Round 2 with the 60th pick:

Marcus Mbow’s growth over four years in West Lafayette mirrors the progress the Lions have made over the past few seasons. This past fall, Mbow returned from a leg injury to lead a unit that led the way for a Purdue rushing offense that averaged 184.6 yards per game. The 6’4″, 303-pounder would provide depth at both guard and tackle positions.
