Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman has made headlines for his response to a question regarding how he balances coaching and his family. In a now trending social media post, Freeman made clear that his wife was the key behind the success of his family and how there are “a lot of times” when she handles the duties “of a single parent” due to his hectic schedule.
However, he also outlined how he does his best to blend his family life and his football life as much as possible, including bringing his family to football practices or team events. As a result of the now trending video, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III and Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders responded on social media to Freeman with some positive words.
What Did Marcus Freeman Say and What Was the Social Media Reaction?
Freeman made clear that his wife was a major reason behind the success of his family.
“To do what I do, you have to have the most unselfish wife in the world,” he detailed.
In response, Griffin took to X (formerly Twitter) to express what he thought of Freeman and his leadership skills.
“Marcus Freeman is ONE OF THE BEST LEADERS IN ALL OF FOOTBALL RIGHT NOW. But he knows he wouldn’t be able to do what he does without his Wife, Joanna,” he stated.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish College Football Playoffs Preview
Freeman and the Fighting Irish are in the midst of a successful season and playoff run in the College Football Playoffs. The No. 7 seed in the nation heading into the tournament, the Fighting Irish have defeated the No. 10-seeded Indiana Hoosiers and the No. 2-ranked Georgia Bulldogs to be one of the final four teams remaining.
Notre Dame takes on the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Jan. 9, 2025. Should the Fighting Irish win their semifinal, they would face the winner of the Texas Longhorns and the Ohio State Buckeyes game in the College Football Playoffs final. The winner of that contest would hoist this year’s CFP National Championship.
As is clear, Freeman is gaining the attention of analysts, fans, and former players alike with his team’s strong performances this year and the stand-up individual that he is off the football field as well.
