South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers has emerged as a star for the Gamecocks over the past two seasons. However, this year has not been nearly as successful as last year. He has not completed passes at the same rate and has struggled to help the Gamecocks score TDs. He has also been much less effective as a rusher. This has been a big reason the Gamecocks are 3-6 and sit near the bottom of the SEC standings.
While Sellers would likely still generate interest if he entered the 2026 NFL draft, he could benefit from staying in college. Last week, analyst Todd McShay spoke on “The McShay Show” about the possibility that Sellers could return to college.
“There’s a strong opinion in NFL scouting circles,” Todd McShay said. “He will be back in school next year. That he absolutely needs to for his development to be ready when called upon as a first-round draft pick… Everyone is supporting the concept of he needs another year of college. There are people in his camp that are in agreement, from what I’m told.”
McShay then suggested that the Miami Hurricanes could be a good fit for Sellers if he enters the transfer portal.
“I’m not here to say there’s collusion,” McShay said. “I promise you, no one said a word. But one person started putting the dots together. There is a place in South Florida where they’ve done a really nice job of hand-picking quarterbacks the last two years and they’ve seen ascensions in their game… Miami is a program I would be very cautious of if I’m Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks program of trying to come in with an offer that’s very difficult to refuse.”

LaNorris Sellers Could Follow in the Footsteps of Cam Ward and Carson Beck
Miami head coach Mario Cristobal has brought in transfer QBs the past two seasons and has had a lot of success. Last year, Cam Ward had a stellar season that resulted in him becoming the first pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Carson Beck came in this season after a down year in Georgia and has had a big bounce-back. While he is not expected to be the first pick in the draft, he has regained some of the draft hype he lost the previous year. LaNorris Sellers could follow a similar trajectory if he enters the portal.
