LaNorris Sellers Injury Update: Robby Ashford Takes Over Following Sellers’ Lower Leg Injury

South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers limped off the field right before halftime. Will the rising dual-threat return to the field in a pivotal matchup against LSU?

Second-year QB LaNorris Sellers left just before halftime in a pivotal Week 3 matchup with LSU. What happened to the dangerous dual-threat, and will he return in the second half?

    What Happened to LaNorris Sellers?

On a 3rd-and-10 with under 20 seconds to go in the first half, LSU EDGE Bradyn Swinson sacked Sellers from behind, causing the QB’s ankle to roll underneath him.

He was able to limp off the field under his own power and walk to the locker room, where the training staff will have the halftime break to assess the injury and determine if he can return for the second half.

On the broadcast, Gamescocks head coach Shane Beamer said Sellers’ injury “doesn’t help, but we have confidence in [backup QB Robby] Ashford. [Sellers] rolled the ankle; we’re gonna go in there and look at it and see where we are.”

Ashford took the final play of the first half, which was also a sack.

Sellers finished the game with 113 yards and one interception on 9-of-16 passing — far from impressive. He threw all of one attempt in the second half after testing his ankle and being officially replaced by Ashford.

However, the first-year starting quarterback was a force on the ground, taking 10 carries for 88 yards and two scores prior to the injury.

But one play stands above the rest: a 75-yard run to the house on the first play of South Carolina’s sixth drive of the game.

Ashford’s play left the Gamecocks as a run-first team, leading the way to a big day from Arkansas transfer Raheim ‘Rocket’ Sanders in the second half.

CFN will continue to monitor the news and situation around Sellers as well as the final updates from the game with LSU once the whistles blow.
