KJ Jefferson Enters Transfer Portal

The transfer portal quarterback market added another big name Saturday following the official entry of Arkansas Razorbacks starter KJ Jefferson.

Another big-name quarterback is officially in the college football transfer portal. After weeks of speculation, Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson is on the open market after officially entering his name into the portal Saturday afternoon.

Former Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson Enters Transfer Portal

Jefferson is officially in the transfer portal, announcing on social media as college football bowl season kicked off Saturday. The fifth-year dual-threat will have one year of remaining eligibility for whichever program he transfers to.

Jefferson returned to Arkansas for the 2023 college football season despite attracting attention from the NFL, expecting to lead the Razorbacks to a bowl game for the third successive season. However, this last year proved difficult for Sam Pittman’s team, resulting in a statistical drop-off for the starting quarterback.

Jefferson enters the transfer portal with 7,911 career passing yards at 8.2 yards per attempt. He’s thrown 67 touchdown passes while adding another 21 scores and 1,876 yards on the ground.

Oft-compared to Cam Newton due to his frame and athletic profile, Jefferson has proven to be a genuine dual-threat and big playmaker for the Razorbacks over the past three years.

“It has been a dream to be captain and QB1 at the University of Arkansas,” Jefferson said in the announcement of his entry into the transfer portal.

“Accomplishing those records and being mentioned amongst the great QBs in Razorback history was an honor, but the memories and friendships I’ve made with my coaches and teammates along the way are what I’ll cherish the most,” the departing Arkansas quarterback added.

A former four-star quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class, Jefferson held offers from multiple Power Five programs, including Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and Baylor. Several of those programs are currently in the quarterback market and could conceivably look to bring Jefferson in for his final season at the college football level.
