Herbstreit played quarterback at Ohio State from 1989 to 1993. As the primary starter during his senior year in 1992, Herbstreit served as team captain and led the Buckeyes to an 8-3-1 record, including a victory over Michigan, which was arguably the highlight of his playing career.
During his senior season at Ohio State, he finished with 1,904 passing yards and five touchdowns. He famously sat behind Greg Finley and Kent Graham during his time with the Buckeyes.
