Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart has potentially saved the Georgia Bulldogs from a significant fine. At a Bulldogs basketball game earlier in the week, fans stormed the court following a major win. However, Smart and University of Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks were able to deter fans from entering the courtside area until all of the opposing teams’ players had left the court.
Had the Bulldogs fans entered the field of play prior to the opposing team’s departure, Georgia may have faced a major fine from the SEC governing body.

Kirby Smart’s Quick Thinking
Smart and Brooks reportedly informed the students to wait until the opposing team left the floor.
Rusty Mansell, co-owner and publisher of the popular Bulldogs online news website ‘@DawgsHQ,’ took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to outline the positive impact both Smart and Brooks made on the school, one that may have allowed the school to avoid a hefty fine.
“Kirby Smart and UGA AD Josh Brooks both talked to Georgia students to not enter the floor until UF was completely off. That saved Georgia a massive fine there,” Mansell detailed.

In recent months, fan courtstorming has become a major problem in college football and basketball, something once again on display in the Bulldogs basketball match.
While it appears as though the Georgia school may avoid significant punishment thanks to Smart and Brooks, it is evident that governing bodies such as the SEC and the NCAA are trying their best to stop fans from entering the field of play, even after matches are completed.
Kirby Smart’s Georgia Impact
As is apparent, Smart has been making a positive impact on and off the football field. Off the field, as previously mentioned, he potentially saved the school from a hefty fine.
On the field, he has been a major reason behind the Bulldogs’ continued dominance in the SEC and college football more generally. This past year, the Bulldogs finished the year with an 11-3 overall record, going 6-2 against fellow SEC opponents. This record was good enough for the program to qualify for the College Football Playoff as the No. 2 seed.

Despite being bounced by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the tournament’s quarterfinals, the Bulldogs still had a top-35 offense and top-25 defense in points per game scored and allowed last year. Looking to next year, analysts believe Smart and the Bulldogs will remain among the very best in college football.
