Julian Lewis Signals He’ll Carry the Torch in True Shedeur Sanders Style

Julian “JuJu” Lewis, a highly touted quarterback from Carrollton High School in Georgia, is already making waves at the University of Colorado after signing with the Buffaloes and beginning his training under Deion Sanders. Despite reclassifying from the 2026 to the 2025 class and skipping his senior year, Lewis dominated high school, throwing for over 11,000 yards and 144 touchdowns while leading his team to a 39-4 record.

Known for his pinpoint accuracy, quick release, and elite football IQ, he has drawn comparisons to Trevor Lawrence. With his advanced skill set, Lewis could make an immediate impact in Boulder, potentially competing for the starting job as a freshman.

Lewis Turns Heads at Colorado’s Spring Practice

The Colorado Buffaloes are entering the 2025 season without key players from last year, including starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who is expected to be a first-round pick in the upcoming draft. With his departure, a competition has been brewing between Lewis and transfer Kaidon Salter, gaining much attention from coaches and the media.

The Buffs’ spring practices began on March 11 and could play a key role in deciding who will start this season—a fact both quarterbacks are well aware of. On Thursday, Colorado posted a video of Lewis throwing an impressive deep ball down the right sideline to wide receiver Joseph Williams, who hauled it in for a reception. The caption read, “What you think?” tagging  Sanders. After the play, Lewis even hit Sanders’ “perfect timing” celebration.

The clip has gone viral, sparking excitement among Buffs fans eager to see what Lewis can bring to the team. His impressive deep ball and confidence on the field have only added to the growing anticipation for the quarterback battle. Many believe his talent and poise could make him a serious contender for the starting job, especially with his ability to make big plays under pressure.

Coach Sanders has some big decisions at quarterback, but he’s also making major moves with his coaching staff. He recently hired former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl-winning offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, who coached Tom Brady during his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—helping Brady achieve his first 5,000-yard season.

This hire is significant, especially with the ongoing quarterback competition at Colorado. Lewis’s father has expressed excitement about the move, believing it could be a game-changer for his son’s development.

On March 18, T. Carlton Lewis expressed his excitement about Deion Sanders’ latest coaching hire on X. With Byron Leftwich joining offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur at Colorado, he wrote, “So Ju gets to be coached by Byron Leftwich and Pat Shurmur in college!”

He followed up with, “When God has a plan for you, sit back and—like Ju told me two months ago—‘God has been cooking; let him cook.’ Even if for only one season of his career, that’s Check Mate!” The Lewis family sees this as a significant boost for JuJu’s development.
