Before the Super Bowl MVP honors and three championship rings, Edelman was an unheralded, zero-star recruit with a dream. He began his college football journey at the College of San Mateo, a junior college in California.

At Kent State, Edelman played quarterback from 2006 to 2008. His senior season in 2008 was particularly impressive, he rushed for a school-record 1,370 yards as a quarterback and threw for 1,820 yards, totaling over 3,000 all-purpose yards.
He finished his college career with 4,997 passing yards and 30 total touchdowns. His performance earned him All-MAC honors and recognition as one of the most versatile athletes in the conference.
Despite his success, Edelman was overlooked by most NFL scouts, primarily because he didn’t fit the mold of a traditional pro quarterback. However, the New England Patriots saw something others didn’t.
Intrigued by his athleticism and grit, they selected Edelman with the 232nd overall pick in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft, not as a quarterback, but as a potential wide receiver and special teams contributor.
The transition to receiver wasn’t easy, but Edelman’s work ethic paid off. Over time, he developed into one of Tom Brady’s most trusted targets. Edelman recorded three 1,000-yard receiving seasons during his 11-year career, finishing with 620 receptions, 6,822 yards, and 36 touchdowns.
