‘I Rarely Had Anyone Speak Ill Of Ryan Day’ — Josh Pate’s Take After Ohio State’s Title Win Turns Heads

Ryan Day’s coaching reputation has long been debated. Rival fans always doubted his skills, claiming that his success was more about Ohio State’s strong program than his own abilities. But after winning the national championship last year, those sounds have changed.

CFB expert Josh Pate recently shared his thoughts, pointing out that Day’s title win has shifted how people see him. In his analysis, Pate emphasized the divide between fan opinions and those of insiders, offering a fresh perspective that could change the way people talk about Ryan Day from now on.

Josh Pate Names Ryan Day the Second-Most Powerful Coach in College Football After Championship Win

Pate recently ranked Day as the second-most powerful coach in college football during his latest episode of “Josh Pate’s College Football Show.” This comes after Day led Ohio State to a national championship, a win that Pate believes changed everything. He said, “If I’m even ranking them in order, would be Ryan Day. And Ryan Day, I think the needle probably moves a little bit more because now he’s won himself a national championship.”

Pate then discussed the big difference in how fans and industry insiders view Ryan. He noticed that many fans, especially those outside of Ohio State, often didn’t give Day much credit.

Instead, they claimed he simply inherited a strong program from Urban Meyer and had all the resources needed to win. But people inside the game—like coaches and analysts—have always had an ample amount of respect for the national title-winning coach.

“And so while maybe fans would short-change him, anytime we’d do that kind of segment, inevitably I would get texts from coaches,” Pate said. “In some cases in the Big Ten, who would say, “Anyone who questions that guy’s crazy.” So coaches already respected him.’”

Pate then touched on a universal truth in college football, emphasizing that winning a championship instantly boosts a coach’s credibility. Decisions that were once questioned are now seen in a different light. “The only thing that’s changed about me is I’m going to get the benefit of the doubt now,” Pate explained.

Pate has met Ryan Day multiple times, so he knows him better than many online critics who simply shout opinions without deep analysis. That’s why Ryan was an easy second-best coaching pick for him.
