‘Johnny Manziel Was in the Club With LeBron James and Drake’ — Social Media Rips Shedeur Sanders for Post-Draft Party

Shedeur Sanders caught flak for his post-draft party, but defenders pointed out Johnny Manziel’s club exploits after his draft. Former Colorado QB Sanders is the recipient of another wave of criticism, this time about being spotted in the club partying after being chosen by the Cleveland Browns in last weekend’s NFL Draft.

Shedeur Sanders Faces Backlash for Club Appearance After NFL Draft Slide

Fans were quick to respond to the video of Sanders partying in a Dallas-area night club following his draft selection.

“Shedeur Sanders clubbing in Dallas with rapper Loe Shimmy after getting drafted by the Cleveland Browns,” the post that sparked outrage wrote.

The post also added: “Sanders’ level of stardom is something we’ve never seen for a rookie.” The post was met with some derision on the platform, as some made light of Sanders being picked in the fifth round instead of at the top of the first round, as many analysts predicted.

The post-draft partying also drew comparisons of Sanders to another highly regarded college football prospect who garnered massive attention before he had his name called during the draft – Johnny Manziel.

The 6’0″ signal-caller was the star of the “Air Raid” offense at Texas A&M run by then-coach Kevin Sumner, and was dubbed “Johnny Football” during his high school years, which added to his allure while at Texas A&M to the point where Nike had merchandise with his nickname.

Some point out the hypocrisy in people criticizing Sanders, pointing to his days partying with superstar rapper Drake and NBA superstar LeBron James, with the latter spending time with him when the Cleveland Browns drafted him in 2014.

One X user, _B The Chef, wrote, “Johnny Manziel was in college hanging out with Drake and getting co-signs from LeBron…cmon.”

Like Sanders, Manziel received mixed reactions from NFL scouts and head coaches before he was drafted. Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Barry Switzer even criticized his attitude, calling him “an arrogant little p—-k.”

Manziel would only last two seasons in the NFL, plagued by personal issues until he was released by the Browns in 2016. He would go on to play in the Canadian Football League and the now-defunct Alliance of American Football before retiring in 2022.
