Joel Klatt Says Iowa Offense Is Ready To Compete, Backs Hawkeyes as Top-25 Team

Klatt recently announced his Post-Spring Top 25 list of teams during an episode of his show.

Here is what he had to say about the Iowa Hawkeyes after putting them in at No. 23:

“I think I believe in them a lot more than others…Close losses can turn into close wins the next year, in particular if you’re improving…I believe they are.”

As Klatt noted, the Hawkeyes had three losses by three points or less last season.

Those came against the likes of Missouri, UCLA, and Iowa State.

Both Missouri and Iowa State were top-20 teams, so that just goes to show that the Hawkeyes are in a really good spot as they continue to build.

Iowa Looking To Contend in the Big Ten in 2025

The Hawkeyes were one of six teams in the Big Ten to have six or more wins in the conference. Oregon, Indiana, Penn State, Ohio State, and Illinois were the others.

Oregon, Indiana, Penn State, and Ohio State all made the College Football Playoff, and Illinois won 10 games. Of course, Penn State made the semifinals of the College Football Playoff, and Ohio State ended up winning the national title in the end.

These are the teams that the Hawkeyes are in company with. Now, it is very hard for a team to repeat as a national champion, which is what the Buckeyes are going to try and do.

Oregon lost starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel to the NFL. Indiana is also likely to regress. The door is going to be opened up for a sneaky team in the conference to contend, and that team could be the one from Iowa City.

However, it is all going to depend on whether or not the offense can take another step and close the gap in the points department from a season ago.
