The New York Jets have officially signed quarterback Justin Fields. This changes a lot with the 2025 NFL Draft right around the corner. The main thing it changes is that the Jets don’t need a quarterback anymore, so they can pivot in a different direction in the draft.
The Jets have a slim wide receiver room. Their undisputed WR1, Garrett Wilson, stands alone regarding the Jets’ receivers. More is expected to take shape as the offseason gets underway, but expect to see the Jets address their receiver issue early and maybe even often in the draft.

With much more on the team that needs to be addressed, both in the draft and free agency, it’s safe to say that signing Fields takes the New York Jets out of the quarterback conversation in the draft.
On Monday, the Jets announced that they had officially signed Fields to a two-year $40 million deal, which includes $30 million guaranteed. This officially marked the end of the Aaron Rodgers era in New York, at least for the Jets.
So, what does this mean for the draft? Well, it’s simple. It means the quarterbacks don’t have to worry about being drafted by the Jets. The Jets will undoubtedly look for help in their wide receiver room.
After losing Davante Adams and Allen Lazard, the Jets’ receiver core lacks depth after Wilson. Someone like Tetairoa McMillan could be a prime candidate for the Jets in the first round of the NFL draft. McMillan is currently the No. 1 receiver prospect in all college football, and it’s easy to see why.
He draws a lot of comparisons to Adams. McMillan is also a formidable outside threat. Standing at six-foot-five, McMillan shows he’s very agile and a yards-after-catch machine, which is uncommon for a bigger receiver. It just makes McMillan that much more of a threat.
McMillan would be the perfect receiver for New York. If given the opportunity, the Jets should, without a doubt, consider drafting him at seventh overall, especially with such a thin quarterback class this season.

Whether the Jets look for a receiver or look at someone like Penn State’s Abdul Carter for an edge rusher, it’s safe to say that the Jets will not be drafting a quarterback in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
