Javian Osborne Talks About Mario Cristobal and Miami’s Running Game

Miami joins Texas (June 13) and Michigan (June 20) on Osborne’s list of scheduled official visits. The 2026 recruit is among his class’s most sought-after running backs, making these visits crucial in determining where he will ultimately commit.

Osborne has previously spoken highly of Cristobal and his coaching philosophy. In an interview with CaneSport in October, he said:

“I know coach (Mario) Cristobal was a former offensive line coach and former offensive lineman at Miami. You know how that is. You know he loves to run the ball.”

Ranked No. 77 overall in the 2026 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, Osborne is the No. 6 running back in his class and the No. 10 recruit in Texas. On3’s own rankings place him even higher, at No. 61 nationally and No. 5 among running backs.

    Michigan Gains Momentum in Recruitment

With Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice leaving to join the Detroit Lions, Michigan appears to have gained an advantage in recruiting Osborne. Previously, many analysts predicted Osborne would commit to Texas. However, the departure of Choice may have shifted momentum toward Michigan, where running backs coach Tony Alford has made Osborne a top priority.

Michigan has consistently pursued both Osborne and five-star running back Savion Hiter, making them key targets for the Wolverines’ future. Osborne’s ranking as a composite top-60 prospect makes him one of the most in-demand backs in the 2026 class. Michigan’s strong relationships with both players have positioned them as serious contenders in this recruiting battle.

While Michigan currently appears to have the edge, recruiting remains highly competitive. The Wolverines must continue strengthening their connection with Osborne and Hiter to secure commitments. With signing day still a long way off, the race for Osborne’s commitment is far from over.
