Where could East Carolina QB Jake Garcia transfer?

Garcia spent two years with the Hurricanes before heading to Missouri to try his luck with the Tigers. He appeared in six games for the Pirates, splitting time with Katin Houser. Now, the Whittier, California native is looking for his fourth home in as many years as he looks for a chance to compete for a starting role.

    Western Carolina

Sometimes, you have to move down a peg. For Garcia, a trip to the FCS Catamounts could allow him to compete for a starting position against freshman Taron Dickens, who threw for 12 touchdowns and three interceptions last year. With the departure of senior Cole Gonzalez to Oklahoma, he could certainly have a chance to play.

    San Diego

With starter Grant Sergent exhausting his eligibility after an exceptional 2024, a trip closer to home could be in play for Garcia. The Toreros want to keep momentum after a strong season, which finished them second in the Pioneer League. Garcia could have a chance to compete.

    UC Davis

Another one is on the close-to-home front for Garcia. Miles Hastings is out after a senior season that saw him rack up 4,493 yards and 38 touchdowns for the Aggies as UC Davis earned itself an FCS playoff berth. Junior Grant Harper is the favorite to start in Davis despite limited experience. Garcia could try to change the mind of head coach Tim Plough.

    San Jose State

If Garcia wants to stick in the FBS, the Mountain West’s San Jose State could be in play. Starter Walker Eget is back for one more year in California, but after a lackluster 13 touchdown, 10 interceptions junior campaign, head coach Ken Niumatalolo could explore the Garcia route. With backup Emmett Brown out the door to Coastal Carolina, he could at least guarantee himself a backup position.

Starter Mikey Keene transferred to Michigan, leaving a gaping hole at the starter position. Garcia could compete with Rice transfer E.J. Warner and last year’s backup Joshua Wood for a shot at playing time.
